WESTERN CAPE COLLEGE - AURUKUN CAMPUS

Western Cape College - Aurukun Campus is a P-10 school. In 1993 the Aurukun Model for the provision of educational services in the community was introduced. This unique education model for Aurukun has attempted to address community and departmental concerns by incorporating into its structure the personal needs of students, their culture and the diverse lifestyles of Aurukun people, providing a curriculum which meets student needs as well as their needs in the wider community and beyond. Years P to 8 are taught as discreet year classes to ensure that English language development is given maximum focus. The remainder of the secondary sector is organised into two groups that are based on a combination of friendship and family associations. With the exception of the few children with parents who are not permanent residents of Aurukun, all the children are drawn from people of the Wik or Kugu language groups.
